That Sure Is Fancy

If I may rant a little about domestication...
What the hell is man's morbid fixation with maxing hideous animal abbominations that can barely function they've become so deformed in pursuit of the ornate? Fancy goldfish, which are just severely deformed carp bred to be appealing, are basically the bracheocephalic dogs of the fish world. This is Winky, a bubble-eye goldfish who, likely due to one of his bubbles rupturing, lost one eye, and has limited vision in his other eye because the fluid filled bulge below pushes it up and out of its nomal socket. These poor fish - in addition to having no dorsal fin, a double tail, a hunched back, and dipped belly (resulting in a a host of health problems from swim bladder disorder to poor balance) - have been bred to have monstrous eyes that even in two eyed fish cause visual impairments and put the eye at constant risk of injury. Poor Winky here can't find his food well because of his eyes, and as a result recently needed a food bowl added to his tank because he can't catch sinking food nor forage effectively with that big bubble hanging from his face. (And no, I can't just pop it; at this stage he'd be at risk for losing his remaining eye).

Yeah, that's fancy alright. Seriously, sometimes domestication just makes me shake my head and sigh.
